The name "Gili Islands" is simply means "small islands" in Sasak. Gili Islands are three small islands (Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno and Gili Air) on the northwest coast of Lombok, Indonesia. The islands are a popular destination for Western tourists that are looking for a remote island experience. The Gili islands are renowned for their white coral beaches and the diversity of sea life such as turtles, reef sharks, and myriad of small and large fish. Gili Trawangan is the largest and offers more attractions than other Gili Islands.
There are no motorized vehicles in Gili Trawangan (as well as the other two Gilis). The only transportations are bicycles (rented by locals to tourists) and cidomo (a smart horse drawn cart). The locals usually use motorized boats and speedboats for traveling to and from each of the Gilis.
The cidomos are the most popular mode of transportation in the island of Lombok in Indonesia.
In Senggigi and Gillis, Cidomo is mostly used by the tourists. But in the other places in Lombok, Cidomo is a very important transportation for the local travelers also. If you are in the mood for sightseeing and enjoy the warm breeze of this tropical island, then Cidomo is the right kind of transportation for you. You can just sit back and enjoy the ride with the cidomo.
When you are riding cidomo, you might want to capture the moments of the trip in your lenses. The horse carts also have a colorful appearance and with healthy pony to carry the cart and the load forward. The price for taking a ride in the Cidomo for a short trip is around Rp.1500, which may rise up to Rp.2000. Nevertheless, cidomo riding is a memorable experience.
