The Gili islands are known for their exotic sandy beaches, white coral beaches and the diversity of sea life such as turtles, reef sharks, and myriad of small and large fish. Gili Islands are three small islands (Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno and Gili Air) on the northwest coast of Lombok, Indonesia.

You will not find any motorcycle rentals like in Bali because all forms of motorized transport are prohibited from the islands. But there are other kinds of transportation that you can use in the Gilis. Bicycle for instance. The locals rented bicycles to tourists. The main roads are good enough for riding at least in Gili Trawangan. If you want to rent the bicycles for the whole day it would cost you about Rp. 60.000. And if you only want to rent for a few hours it will cost you around Rp. 25.000. A ride around the island itself is only less than an hour because the island is so small. At some points you might need to walk your bikes because of the sands.

Other transportation is cidomo. The cidomos are the most popular mode of transportation in the island of Lombok in Indonesia. In the Gillis, Cidomo is mostly used by the tourists. But in the other places in Lombok, Cidomo is a very important transportation for the local travelers also. If you are in the mood for sightseeing and enjoy the warm breeze of this tropical island, then Cidomo is the right kind of transportation for you. You can just sit back and enjoy the ride with the cidomo. Cidomos fare charge according to distance. Make sure you do a bit of friendly bargaining before you hop on these horse carts.

To walk around Gili Trawangan takes a few hours depending on your pace. There is an international hotel in Trawangan called Villa Ombak Hotel which known to be clean, comfortable and can offer you first class service.
Traveling between the islands (Trawangan,Meno and Air) requires local boats. Or you can just chartered one to get across the Gilis. You can buy tickets from the ticket offices on each island from where the boats depart. Although the distances between the islands may seem only a few hundred meters apart, do not attempt it to swim it. The currents can be deceptive and fierce and several backpackers have died trying.
